Being a leader that people will want to follow can be tricky. Having an awareness as to what makes a good leader, and being able to have the determination to follow through on everything in the proper manner. The what and how are not enough, as you must also master the why.
Honesty is important for a leader. Great leaders are also trustworthy leader. As you work to develop your leadership skills, attempt to always set a precedent of honesty and trustworthiness. When people know they can trust and rely on you, they will grow to respect you as a leader.
Good leaders must focus on what is to come. Look ahead and plan accordingly. Of course, you cannot always know what will happen, but it is important to hone this skill over time. Keep asking yourself about your goals for the next year, or even six months, so you can plan your outcome accordingly.
A successful leader is able to recognize the talents of other group members. When you are in the process of looking for people to help you, it should be simple for you to decide who would give you the best benefit. This applies to hiring and contracting people to do small jobs for you.

Be confident and sincere when dealing with your employees, customers and clients. Don’t be arrogant, though. People don’t like those that are arrogant. Sincerity can build a bridge of trust between you and the people you work with. However, insincerity will make the workplace a much more difficult place to lead.
If a leadership position is something you want, you need to put leadership qualities on display. Model yourself after effective leaders you admire. Dress correctly, speak without profanity and show trust and respect to your own current leaders. Even if you don’t think you will personally benefit from it, always go beyond what is required. Doing so will prove you have it what it takes to become a good leader.
Show your team members the type of behavior you expect them to have. Your emotional volatility will pass to your team. If you’re lazy and untrustworthy, your team will think that they can be too. However, when you exude trustworthiness and show respect, you’ll get the same back in spades.
Stay positive. Even though it may be difficult to maintain an optimistic attitude, staying positive will help you develop your leadership skills. Your attitude can spread to others, increase morale, and help them see that better things can come.
Volunteer for tasks which require overtime. Showing that you’re a good example is the key to having them see that you know the effort and work that is involved in completing items. Be a team player rather than an uninvolved observer.
